In the hybridizer’s own words: “To a degree an invented name but actually a shortened version of the name of a real person, Eske Dost. I knew Eske’s parents through work. Her father was Dutch (Indonesian) and her mother from Malay and Dutch parents. She was a very good swimmer and represented Waikato at interprovincial swimming carnivals. I liked the unusual name Eske, took the “T” off the end of her surname and liked what I had arrived at.”
