ADS Classics

In 2011, the American Daffodil Society (ADS) designated a new exhibition section for any daffodil registered between 1940 and 1969, inclusive named "Classics".

The ADS believed that such a section would interest a different segment of exhibitors and might encourage bulb growers to keep these post-war era cultivars available.

The ADS Historic daffodil period ended shortly after World War II started, when marketing and exporting of daffodils temporarily ceased.

When trade resumed, daffodils were different, improvements in form were most noticeable.

Commentaires

Fl. rounded, 90 mm wide; perianth and other petaloid segments very broad, rounded at apex and truncate, very deeply overlapping; the outer whorl mucronate, spreading; the inner whorl slightly shorter, not noticeably mucronate, inflexed, with margins incurling; three segments at center strongly inflexed, with margins deeply incurling; corona segments very short, clustered among the petaloid segments at center, brilliant yellow, frilled.

Received the Royal Horticultural Society(RHS) Award of Garden Merit(AGM) in 1993 and the award was rescinded by the RHS in 2012.
