The ADS defines a Historic Daffodil as any cultivar formally registered with the Royal Horticultural Society or known in gardens prior to 1940.

The year 1939 at the end of this period, marked the beginning of World War II, a time during which fewer new daffodil cultivars were either created or made available, especially in Europe.

The ADS believes this class will interest a segment of exhibitors and may encourage bulb growers to keep these pre-war era cultivars available.

Because Historic daffodils tend to have less form than modern daffodils, they mmay be exhibited in special classes to compete against others iths same class.

The American Daffodil Society maintains a "Suggested List of Intermediate-Sized Daffodils".

The ADS defines an intermediate daffodil as a standard daffodil in Divisions 1, 2, 3, 4, or 11 having a single floret whose diameter is typically greater than 50mm and through 80mm.

Intermediate daffodils may be entered in ADS show exibition classes for standard daffodils as well as classes reserved for intermediate daffodils.

Commentaires

Fl. 60 mm wide, opening pale sulfur yellow, becoming creamy white, facing down; perianth segments ovate, acute, fairly prominently mucronate, a little inflexed, twisted or with margins wavy, separated; corona cylindrical, slightly constricted at mid-point, smooth or lightly ribbed, sometimes remaining yellowish, with mouth expanded and frilled, rim notched and dentate.

Origine du Nom

Named in honor of William Pashley Milner, of Sheffield. In 1852, he married Susannah Aldam, a descendant of several distinguished Quaker families. Later, he moved to Meersbrook Park, a house which later became the Ruskin Museum, and finally acquired Totley Hall, a fine Elizabethan mansion on the Derbyshire side of Sheffield. He was an enthusiastic gardener and the small graceful daffodil preserves his name to this day.
