Alister Clark

Bulla, Victoria, Australia. Prop. Glenara Daffodils; Alister Clark was a renown Victorian rose breeder of yesteryear, but was also a keen breeder of daffodils. In 1897 Clark joined a syndicate, which bought the stock of daffodil bulbs bred by Rev. G. H. Engleheart. He also bought half the stock of a bulb collection made by English Shakespearean actor, George Titheradge, who was responsible for importing so many early daffodils into Australia.

In 2011, the American Daffodil Society (ADS) designated a new exhibition section for any daffodil registered between 1940 and 1969, inclusive named "Classics".

The ADS believed that such a section would interest a different segment of exhibitors and might encourage bulb growers to keep these post-war era cultivars available.

The ADS Historic daffodil period ended shortly after World War II started, when marketing and exporting of daffodils temporarily ceased.

When trade resumed, daffodils were different, improvements in form were most noticeable.

Corona large, rosy salmon pink, usually with white at base, in some weather conditions without, heavily frilled.
