Commentaires

Fl. 108 mm wide; perianth segments broadly ovate, blunt, slightly mucronate, brilliant yellow, spreading, overlapping half; the inner segments a little inflexed, somewhat creased and with margins nicked; corona short funnel-shaped, broad, smooth, strong orange, paler towards base, mouth straight, finely ribbed, with deeply overlapping lobes, lightly frilled.

Parentage could also be ‘M.J. Berkeley’ x ‘C.J. Backhouse’ or ‘King Alfred’.

Sydney B. Mitchell (California) in “Why I Grow Daffodils- and How” in The American Daffodil Year Book published by The American Horticultural Society 1936 “ stated: “Of the golden incomps., none equals Fortune, which is early, an advantage with us, vigorous, tall, long-stemmed, long-lasting and of fine color, the cup being particularly nicely flushed with red in some season when it opens in dull weather.

According to The American Horticultural Society’s 1937 issue of the The American Daffodil Year Book, Guy L. Wilson’s article “No doubt Fortune will be planted by everyone when it becomes sufficiently moderate in prices. I do not know of any daffodil which has a more splendidly reliable constitution It makes a very fine firm healthy bulbs, and I have never heard of it being sick or sorry in any part of the world where it has been grown”

Parent Notes from the RHS: “Possibly ‘M.J. Berkeley’ x (‘C.J. Backhouse’ or ‘King Alfred’); or ‘Sir Watkin’ x ‘Blackwell'”
