The year 1939 at the end of this period, marked the beginning of World War II, a time during which fewer new daffodil cultivars were either created or made available, especially in Europe.

The ADS believes this class will interest a segment of exhibitors and may encourage bulb growers to keep these pre-war era cultivars available.

Because Historic daffodils tend to have less form than modern daffodils, they mmay be exhibited in special classes to compete against others iths same class.

Fls 2 per stem, 76 mm wide, milk white, facing down; perianth segments broadly ovate, lightly reflexed, overlapping; corona short funnel-shaped.

According to The American Horticultural Society’s 1937 issue of the The American Daffodil Year Book, Guy L. Wilson’s article “Some Modern Daffodils for Garden Decoration” states: “…Niveth seems quite reliable, and would be a very charming subject in a small border of choice bulbs, or at the edge of a larger border, or on rock work; it has small drooping pure marble white flowers of the utmost refinement, occasionally borne two on the stem.”
