The ADS defines a Historic Daffodil as any cultivar formally registered with the Royal Horticultural Society or known in gardens prior to 1940.

The year 1939 at the end of this period, marked the beginning of World War II, a time during which fewer new daffodil cultivars were either created or made available, especially in Europe.

The ADS believes this class will interest a segment of exhibitors and may encourage bulb growers to keep these pre-war era cultivars available.

Because Historic daffodils tend to have less form than modern daffodils, they mmay be exhibited in special classes to compete against others iths same class.

Bemerkungen

Fl. 111 mm wide; perianth segments broadly ovate, blunt, vivid yellow, slightly inflexed, smooth, overlapping half; the inner segments more narrowly ovate, shouldered at base, inflexed and slightly twisted; corona ribbed, rich golden yellow, with mouth expanded and lightly frilled, rim flanged, deeply notched and crenate.

According to deJager’s 1963 catalog: “Has been voted at the R.H.S. Daffodil show, the best Daffodil variety and the best 1a, ten years in succession, the only Daffodil ever to achieve this record.”

Received the Royal Horticultural Society(RHS) Award of Garden Merit(AGM) in 1993 and the award was rescinded by the RHS in 2012.
