According to the 1986 March ADS Journal in Meg Yerger’s article, Andrew Barton Paterson (Banjo, 1864-1941) was a writer for the Sydney Bulletin who, with his prose and poetry, provided racy ballads of outdoor life and achieved a place in public affection which continues to the present day from his authorship of Waltzing Matilda which one hears played several times a day on a visit to Australia and often on TV networks anywhere pictures of Australian scenes or animals are show. The term Waltzing Matilida is Australian slang for a man who has to tramp along railroad tracks to inspect them for safety. Paterson wrote the words to the song and his sister wrote the music.
