N. tazetta subsp. lacticolor
Grand Monarque
William Jackson, Jr., Australia
Year of first flowering: 1973
Placid x Romney
Fiddleedee
3-4 fls/stem, 55mm, facing slightly down; perianth segments broadly ovate, mucronate, spreading, concave; corona bowl-shaped, deeply ribbed, opening yellow w/band of pale pink at rim, becoming pure white, mouth straight.
In the hybridizer’s words: “While registered as 8W-W because that is the colour it usually has when mature, the flower when first open would have the colour code 8W-YYPW. The coronas are basically very pale yellow with a band of apple blossom pink with a fine white edge to the coronas. The colour does vary from season to season but in 2011 the pink was quite distinct. Generally the pink does not last for long, hence the name. The pink can be traced back to one of the grandparents.”
