In the hybridizer’s words: “This name attached to my brain many, many years ago and I don’t know why and why it stuck there over the years. I was pretty certain that the full name Pather Panchali, was the name of the first Indian (Asian) novel to ever become popular in the west. I have just this moment confirmed (via Google) that the name did come from an Indian novel by one (unpronounceable) Bibhutibhasan Bandyopadhay. It was made into a Bengali film in 1955 when directed by Satyajit Ray. The flowers colouring fits well with the heat of Indian Bengal.”
