Origin of Name

Part of the Brogden family’s “Egmont series.” Named for the volcano Taranaki and is also known as Mount Egmont located in the Taranaki region on the west coast of North Island New Zealand. Taranaki is a combination of two Maori words tara=mountain peak and naki=shining. In 1770, Captain Cook named the volcano Mount Egmont after Sir John Percieval, the 2nd Earl of Egmont. On a clear day, the Brogden’s have a beautiful view of Mount Egmont.
