Fl. forming a double triangle, 95mm wide; perianth segments 35mm long, ovate, blunt, white, touched very pale yellow at base, with prominent white mucro, spreading, plane, smooth and of membranaceous substance, overlapping half; the inner segments narrower, somewhat shouldered at base, less prominently mucronate; corona 21mm long, narrow funnel-shaped, angled, orange, touched yellowish orange at base, mouth straight, wavy and irregularly lobed, with rim crenate.

Origin of Name

Pronounced “shemn-a-HAW”, it is the French name (meaning “high road”) for the trail used by Native Americans in their seasonal migrations.  The trail runs north/south along the west side of the Mississippi River River.
