Origin of Name

This daffodil is named after the most Northern point in the South Island of New Zealand.

Cape Farewell was first sighted by Dutch explorer Abel Tasman, the first European to see New Zealand in December 1642. Cape Farewell was named by English explorer Captain James Cook as the last point of land they saw as he left New Zealand in 1770 to further explore the Pacific.
