Fl. forming a double triangle, 132 mm wide; perianth segments ovate, shouldered at base, acute, spreading, concave, of heavy substance, with midrib showing, overlapping; the inner segments narrower; corona cylindrical, smooth, mouth flared and wavy, with rim crenate.
Named because garden visitors commented on the immense size of the flower, noticing the way it stood up as the apparent boss of the garden. A Kiwi slang name for the boss is the Big Cheese.
