Origin of Name

Named after the Arapawa Island of New Zealand. This island is the entrance of Tory Channel, the main entrance to Picton, which is the port for most ferries sailing between the North and South Islands. The correct name is Arapaoa translated in Maori, Ara means Pathway and Paoa means smoke or possibly mist.
