In 2011, the American Daffodil Society (ADS) designated a new exhibition section for any daffodil registered between 1940 and 1969, inclusive named "Classics".

The ADS believed that such a section would interest a different segment of exhibitors and might encourage bulb growers to keep these post-war era cultivars available.

The ADS Historic daffodil period ended shortly after World War II started, when marketing and exporting of daffodils temporarily ceased.

When trade resumed, daffodils were different, improvements in form were most noticeable.

Comments

Perianth segments ivory white, broadly ovate, blunt, slightly mucronate, a little inflexed, concave, margins minutely incurling, overlapping half; inner segments narrowly ovate, inflexed at base, reflexed at apex, a little twisted; cup is yellowish pink, cylindrical, mouth expanded and 6-lobed, loosely frilled, with rim irregularly crenate and widely rolled.

Origin of Name

According to Dr. Throckmorton, in a letter dated 1976, C.E. Radcliff introduced this flower as ‘Roslyn’ in 1940s. Matthew Zandbergen, bought the stock and registered it as ‘Alpine Glow’ because the name Roslyn was already used.
