Origin of Name

In the hybridizer’s own words: “I am a fan of the band SANTANA and I had that name in mind for a yellow/red tazetta. Unfortunately when I went to use it, I discovered that Clive Postles had already used it so the next best thing was to use the name of my favorite Santana album ABRAXAS. I did not check the spelling of the word, but after registering ‘Abraxis’ with the ‘i’ rather than the ‘a’. I happened to look up a dictionary to see whether there was such a word and then checked the album cover and found that I had the wrong spelling. I prefer it with the ‘i’. ‘Abraxis’ is W/O but I did not have any Y/R tazettas ready for registering so used the name in case Clive might use it.”
