Fl. star-shaped, 83 mm wide; perianth segments ovate, blunt, not prominently mucronate, spreading or a little inflexed, somewhat twisted or with margins incurling or wavy, overlapping one-third; the inner segments more strongly twisted or with margins more strongly wavy or incurved; corona short funnel-shaped, ribbed, yellowish white, with canary yellow at rim, mouth straight and occasionally split, frilled, with rim minutely crenate.

In 2009, the RHS changed the classification from Division 3 to Division 2.

Origin of Name

Believed to be named after the Backhouse’s much loved and valued housekeeper who married one of William Backhouse’s gardeners.
