Comments

Flower very large, yellow; perianth segments ovate, blunt, a little inflexed, with margins sometimes incurling, overlapping a quarter to one-third; the inner segments somewhat twisted; corona cylindrical, smooth, darker in tone than the perianth, with mouth flared and a little frilled, rim notched and shallowly and unevenly crenate. Resembles a large-flowered ‘Emperor’ of slightly lighter color.

As published in Cartwright & Goodwin’s 1914 catalog: “trumpet rich yellow, perianth streaky yellow”

It is sometimes spelled as ‘Glory of Leyden’.

The RHS has as the seed parent ‘Emperor’ hybrid or N. abscissus hence the two entries in DaffSeek.

Origin of Name

Named after the area Leyden, the Netherlands, which is where the hybridizer, Mr. de Graaff and sons, lived.
