Mary Lou GripshoverFl. rounded; perianth segments broad in outline, squarish or truncate at apex, slightly mucronate, slightly reflexed, smooth and of heavy substance, overlapping half; inner segments appearing to be more nearly acute at apex, spathulate, margins wavy and sometimes incurling; cup is disc-shaped, ribbed, yellow in a narrow band at mid-zone, green and orange in broad bands at base and rim respectively, with rim entire.
Named for an Ohio-born poet (Akron, 1952) who was poet laureate of the U.S. From 1993-1995.
