Fl. rounded, 80 mm wide; perianth segments greenish white, of thick substance, glistening, deeply overlapping; corona light orange-yellow, with yellowish green at base and a narrow band of vivid red at rim.

A description according to Cartwright and Goodwin 1914 catalog: “Not a large flower, but extremely valuable on account of its earliness. Eye of ‘Horace’ type, but bolder and more striking. Glistening white segments, very thick and of extraordinary roundness and symmetry. They are so overlapping that the alternate segments meet behind. A first-class exhibition flower. Height 16in.

Origin of Name

Named after the sweet singing bird, the Nightingale.
